The last-mile connectivity gap in Malaysia’s public transportation infrastructure poses a significant barrier to achieving efficient and sustainable urban mobility solutions. In an effort to facilitate last mile connectivity for Malaysians, SOCAR, Malaysia’s leading car-sharing and car rental platform, is looking to smoothen the last-mile commute of public transport users with the establishment of SOCAR zones at 25 MRT and LRT stations. Through this initiative, SOCAR aims to complement the accessibility of public transport to ensure a seamless and hassle-free transportation experience for commuters that prioritises accessibility, convenience, and choice, at all stages of their journey.
Poor connectivity is not a new issue in Malaysia, with many public transport users raising frequent concerns on the inaccessibility, unreliability, and unsafe nature of the same. In spite of numerous measures to better the country’s connectivity infrastructure, inadequate first-and last-mile connectivity between modes of transport only adds to the inconvenience, making the daily journey to work or other essential destinations a daunting task.

Part of this plan to address that missing link is the strategic establishment of 'SOCAR Zones' across major MRT and LRT lines in the Klang Valley, Selangor and Ipoh — including prominent stations such as LRT KL Sentral, LRT Sentul and MRT Mutiara Damansara. With a wide variety of vehicles at their disposal, from nimble hatchbacks ideal for quick, solo trips to spacious SUVs perfect for accommodating families or larger groups, SOCAR’s extensive fleet caters to multiple needs and preferences. The SOCAR zones also offer commuters easy access to SOCAR’s SOCAR-2-YOU service — which delivers and collects booked vehicles from selected locations — for a hassle-free last-mile journey.
Shylendra further added, “Commuters no longer need to worry about making that extra journey to pick up their car — with just a few taps on their phone, the car will be right at their doorstep.”
Adding to the convenience is SOCAR’s streamlined payment process, which allows commuters to pay based on the time they use a vehicle and the distance they travel. This flexible payment system ensures that commuters only pay for the exact duration and distance of their journey, eliminating any unnecessary expenses.
Additionally, SOCAR also provides users with keyless access to their vehicles, simplifying the pickup and drop-off process. With just a few taps on their smartphones, commuters can access their chosen vehicle, further enhancing the ease and efficiency of their urban travel experience.
